In 1992, GB&A were commissioned by Engine Service Specialists, Inc., a subsidiary of Caterpillar, Inc., to design and construct a national chain of quick-lube facilities specifically targeted toward trucks, fleets, and heavy transport vehicles. It was a joint venture with Mobil Oil.
In 1993, designs were completed for the prototype building. The buildings featured bold coloring for high visibility and brand awareness. A service mark for all facilities nationally was designed and marketed under the brand name “Road Ready”.
Facilities were designed using the most technologically advanced lube equipment and operations. For example, the heating for the building was provided using waste crankcase oil from the trucks serviced at the facility. Truck wash service features added to later Road Ready facilities used state-of-the-art water reclamation techniques.
Services to the client included site selection and evaluation, building design and construction management services.
